Iran jet crashes, burns |
An Iranian passenger plane skidded off the runway and smashed its wing on the ground, sparking a fire as it landed in the northeastern city of Mashhad, killing 29 people, Iran's aviation chief say. His comments corrected an earlier report of 80 dead, which had come from state-run television.

Ernesto brings dangerous wind ashore |
Gale-force winds are battering mid-Atlantic states after Ernesto made landfall, the National Hurricane Center said Friday. Ernesto was downgraded to a tropical depression but the threat of flooding and high winds remains for North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland.
