965 dead in Baghdad stampede |
At least 965 people are killed and 465 others injured in a stampede on a Baghdad bridge after a massive Shiite religious commemoration erupts into panic. Most of those killed were women and children, police sources say, and officials expect the death toll to hit 1,000.

Bush: Recovery from Katrina 'will take years' |
