Sources: Thompson puts one foot into 2008 race |
Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson will take a major step toward a 2008 run for the White House by "testing the waters" -- beginning to raise money and hire campaign staff as early as Friday, several sources close to Thompson told CNN.

In a challenge to Syria, the U.N. Security Council voted Wednesday to set up a court to prosecute the 2005 truck-bomb murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Syria said the decision violates Lebanese sovereignty and could plunge Lebanon into further instability.
