On Friday, Metro Nashville teachers will spend the final day before classes begin on Monday...learning about poverty. Not getting their classrooms ready. Not getting prepared for the first day of classes. Instead they will gather in a mandatory 8 hour presentation on poverty by Ruby Payne. Yep, this really ought to make that first day go smoothly. How about a day devoted to different learning styles so that teachers can recognize and employ them? Or if you want to talk about ovecoming poverty rather than excusing it, why not get Star Parker?
