GOVERNOR BREDESEN'S SELF PORTRAIT EMERGES!
December 18, 2008 - 19:27
Governor Phil Bredesen is featured in Esquire Magazine as part of their December edition, along with a self portrait. CLICK HERE. Courtesy of WKRN News 2 we now have a copy of the self portrait to share. CLICK HERE. It looks a lot like a crime scene composite sketch that police produce from witness descriptions.

Presumably, there is a drawing or photo in some National Geographic somewhere that provided the inspiration for the Governor's work. Remember the controversy over his Christmas card a few years ago? CLICK HERE. So rummage through your old National Geographic copies and see what you can find!

CAROLINE KENNEDY'S INTEREST IN POLITICS IS RATHER LIMITED!
December 18, 2008 - 21:06
If the Dems are smart they will pass on making Caroline a Senator. But then again, who ever seriously argued that Democrats are smart. CLICK HERE.
I know, Senator Bill Frist didn't vote before he ran for the U.S. Senate, but at least he had to get ELECTED rather than simply having the seat given to him. |

CHRYSLER SHUTTING DOWN PLANTS FOR 30 DAYS.
December 18, 2008 - 07:59
This is a pretty basic business move. When the dealers aren't selling your cars, it doesn't make sense to keep making more. And although the media has portrayed the "poor workers" as being victims in this shutdown, you have to pay attention to the details to know that the UAW "workers" will get full pay and benefits during he shutdown. CLICK HERE.
Thus, the company really won't save much money, and the workers are getting a fully paid thirty day vacation! That sort of "financial arrangement" is why the company is not likely to survive...and then the overpaid, underworked employees will lose their jobs...thanks in large part to their "friends" at the UAW. |

DID JESUS LIE?
December 18, 2008 - 07:45
There are apparently a lot of Christians who don't think Jesus was particularly serious when He noted that there is but one way to the Father. CLICK HERE. Interestingly, American religious faith is largely a matter of geography. CLICK HERE. |

CHRISTMAS IS TIME FOR MOM'S CHEX MIX!!
December 18, 2008 - 12:46
Mom could make this stuff by the 50 gallon drum and there still would't be enough for all the Gill boys and girls! Patrick and Ryan can consume it by the bucketload if I would let them, but I don't...so there is more for ME!
1 package cheerios 1 package wheat chex 1 package rice chex 1 bag slim pretzels 1 large can mixed nuts optional - 1 pound pecans Mix together in large grocery bag or large roaster pan.
Seasonings: 1/2 cup bacon drippings & 3 sticks of margarine 2 teaspoons garlic salt 1 tablespoon seasoned salt 1 tablespoon garlic powder few drops of tabasco sprinkle of cayenne (red) pepper 1 teaspoon onion powder 5 teaspoons worcheshire sauce
Melt margarine (butter) and bacon drippings- Add seasonings.
Mix well with cereals. Try to coat evenly.
Bake uncovered in large roasting pan in 250 degree oven for 2 hours. Stir every 15 - 20 minutes while baking. Easiest way to mix every 15 minues is to pour mixture into brown paper grocery bag, returning to roasting pan for continued cooking.
Cool and store in air-tight containers.

CHOCOLATE CRINKLE COOKIES ARE BACK FOR CHRISTMAS.
December 18, 2008 - 12:47
Back for Christmas, these are always a favorite at the Gill House during the holidays. They are particularly good fresh out of the oven with a cold glass of milk! Rumor has it that they are not as good after about 48 hours when they harden up, but they never lasted that long at our house so I have no idea!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup vegetable oil 4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled 2 cups granulated sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 4 eggs 2 cups all purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Mix oil, chocolate, granulated sugar and vanilla in large mixing bowl. Mix in eggs, one at a time. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and refrigerate for three hours.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheet.
Drop dough by teaspoonful into powdered sugar, coat and roll into small balls. Place about two inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake about 10 minutes, but be sure not to overcook. They should be more like brownies, sort of soft, when they are done. Let cool on wirerack. Eat and enjoy! Repeat as necessary!
