TEXAS MARINE DENIED IN STATE TUITION BREAK.
August 19, 2005 - 10:08
He is registered to vote in Texas. His parents live in Texas. His driver's license is issued by Texas. But Carl Basham, a U.S. Marine, has been denied in-state tuition discounts at a Texas university because his parents moved him from Texas to Louisiana during his Junior year of high school. That is where he resided when he enlisted right out of high school, but his parents moved back to Texas at that point. Now he is attempting to enroll at a Texas junior college and being told he must pay out of state tuition. Why doesn't he just claim to be an illegal alien? Then he could get in-state tuition AND probably get free health care, housing and welfare payments. Texas is probably right on the law, but it underlines again how those who follow the law and play by the rules are treated worse than those who cheat the system, lie, and break the law in coming here.
