Senator Bob Corker (RINO-TN) continues to show his true colors now that he feels he is safely embedded in the Washington, D.C. culture. He voted with the Democrats for a taxpayer funded bailout of people who bought houses they can't afford. Now we get to pay for houses they couldn't afford. Corker is what you get when you "hold your nose" and vote for someone who is a fake conservative. Remember that as you decide whether or not to hold your nose for McCain! Dear Steve,
My husband is a US Marine and has been for the past 14 years. He is the 4thgeneration to serve in the military in a family that has a service history going back to the Revolutionary war. He left last month for training for his 3rd Iraq tour and will be gone until July 2009. He volunteered for this tour, as he volunteered for his second tour. He came home from his second tour just last September and by December had volunteered to leave again in April for his third less than eight months later.

My husband's unit is Personell Retrieval and Processing. They are an all volunteer unit that rotates Marines with EVERY rotation. That means that every single one of our Marines has volunteered for our unit and every six months we have Marines who step up to the plate and volunteer to go to Iraq for one of the most difficult jobs there is; caring for their fallen bretheren. Most of our Marines are on their second and third tours. They are all amazing men and women who are not only proud of their country, but are all incredibly intelligent, insightful and selfless.

It is inconceivable that a US Congressman or Senator would make such ignorant and arrogant comments regarding any of these fine men and women. I serve these Marines and their families as their family support services coordinator and I could not be prouder of them. The comments of Senator Harkin were not just hurtful and desipicible to those who wear the uniform but they are an insult to the families that serve right
along side them on the homefront. They are an afront to everything that we stand for and to the great and glorious history of honor, courage and commitment that we represent. Senator Harkin would do well to remember that it is because of the generations of military families who have stepped forward and volunteered to spill their blood that he enjoys the freedoms he has today to speak his opinions aloud and from the pulpit of the media without fear of retribution. Yes, there are bad apples in the Military. But there are far more men and women who are upstanding members of  society who would and do sacrifice all that they have and are to defend our way of life. I know that as the son of a Servicemember you know personally that there is nothing we in the military community, Servicemember and Family member alike, pray for more than peace. But we understand that there are things worth  fighting for; worth dying for. 

I am proud of the military history and tradition of my husband's and my own family. I am proud that there are men and women today that carry on that tradition. I proudly display my blue star flag in the window of my home, fly the American and Marine Corps Colors and adorn my home in yellow ribbons. My husband and his Marines are warriors that represent all that is great and honorable about this country. It is because of their sacrifices that we enjoy the way of life we do. The Congressman is entitled to his opinion but he has proven what we in the Military community know by way of our own blood, sweat, tears and lonely nights:  For those who have fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
