Last week the Thompson campaign got some unkind media attention focused on staff upheaval. This week it looks like the story will focus on his fundraising, or lack thereof. There are some nuggets of good news in the fundraising report. Over $700,000 was raised on-line, showing a strong foundation of grassroots support from which to build. The campaign reports receiving donations from over 9,000 people -- not a bad start for a campaign that did not rely on phone solicitation or a direct mail campaign. And which did not have an ongoing political operation to rely upon like other candidates who are current (or immediately past) Senators, Governors or Congressmen with updated contribution lists at their disposal.

BUT, the "First Day Founders" that were gathered the first week in June were SUPPOSED to generate $5 million for Thompson. They apparently generated about half of that figure. Granted, it is easier to raise money when your candidate is an actual candidate rather than "thinking" about it.  A candidate asking for contributions because he is "thinking about running" is more than likely to get the response: "well, I'm THINKING about writing a check; when you are sure, get back to me." That is apparently the response that a lot of the big dollar Thompson fundraisers are getting from their targets. With a slew of fundraising events slated for August, the Thompson fundraising numbers will almost certainly improve. But until he seems to be more certain about his own future, many prospective donors are likely to keep their checkbooks closed until an actual campaign is opened.

The semi-reality show "So You Think You Can Dance" went far left last week with a series of "anti-war" dances while the dancers wore t-shirts decorated with a big "peace" symbol and one of the judges wore an outfit intended to disrespect the Marines. They say it was just a "misunderstanding." Riiiiight. Do you think that the Islamic jihadists in their caves watched these dance routines with scantily clad women prancing about and decided that killing innocent men, women and children in the name of Allah is the wrong thing to do? Do you think the dance routine convinced any of them to abandon murder and pursue peace? Me neither. CLICK HERE.

Some vegan women in New Zealand are saying they will not have sex with men who eat meat. This won't really affect me, since I don't think I have ever even met a woman from New Zealand much less...well, you know. (But can women in New Zealand really be that picky about their partners with so many sheep around?)

I may actually be in partial agreement about this whole "vegansexual" thing if they are talking about eating meat DURING sex. Nothing quite takes away the moment like a woman grabbing a big ole fried chicken leg and taking a bite in the midst of passionate intimacy.
