Freezing rain pelts Southeast |

Terror chief mistakenly released, official says |
Iraqi security forces captured the most wanted terrorist suspect in the country last year, but released him because they didn't know who he was, the Iraqi deputy minister of interior said Thursday. A U.S. official could not confirm the report, but said he would not dismiss it.

Bush, McCain agree on torture ban |
After months of opposition, the White House agreed Thursday to Republican Sen. John McCain's call to ban torture by U.S. personnel. "It's a done deal" McCain said after meeting with President Bush. But the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee says he will try to block the deal.
