Former Concentration Camp Guard Dies
Erna Wallisch, a former concentration camp guard who was under investigation for war crimes, died in a Vienna hospital last week, Austrian prosecutors said. Investigators had reopened the case against the 86-year-old woman earlier this year after new evidence from Polish witnesses suggested that she was involved in the murder of inmates in the Majdanek concentration camp near the city of Lublin, Poland. Mrs. Wallisch, who ranked seventh on the Simon Wiesenthal Center?s list of most-wanted Nazi war criminals, evaded prosecution in the 1970s due to a lack of evidence linking her directly to Nazi genocide...
