The LG.Philips LCD Company, one of the world’s biggest makers of liquid-crystal displays, reported that it swung to a loss in the second quarter as high inventories drove average selling prices lower. The company, based in Seoul, South Korea, said it lost 322 billion won ($340 million) in the three months ended June 30, compared with a profit of 41 billion won a year earlier. The result was slightly worse than expectations. Sales rose 0.3 percent, to 2.32 trillion won ($2.49 billion), compared with analysts’ forecast of 2.31 trillion won. The company, which makes thin-film transistor liquid-crystal displays used in flat-screen televisions and computers, is a joint venture of LG Electronics of South Korea and Philips Electronics of the Netherlands. Eurotunnel announced the move after hours of meetings with major creditors aimed at securing a debt restructuring plan that the Channel Tunnel operator says is essential to its survival. A spokeswoman, Mady Chabrier, said that the filing could be withdrawn if a debt restructuring agreement was reached. G.E. plans to use proceeds from the sale to reinvest in core operations and pay for restructuring. G.E. Supply will continue to distribute G.E. products.
