THE PRICE OF EGGS Fluctuations in the prices of many things (including eggs) will be described this week by the Labor Department when it releases its monthly Producer Price Index (Tuesday) and the Consumer Price Index (Wednesday). People who study these indexes — including the policy makers at the Federal Reserve, who give particular weight to the consumer index — will be on the lookout for inflation. The wholesale figure rose an unexpectedly high 0.5 percent in June, and economists are predicting a 0.4 percent increase for July, according to Bloomberg News.
