World Business Briefing: Bid for Sears Canada Extended
The Sears Holdings Corporation extended until Oct. 31 its $802 million offer to buy the 46 percent of Sears Canada it does not already own. The proposal may be further extended as the company seeks to appeal a regulatory ruling blocking its effort to buy the stake. The bid would pay Sears Canada stockholders 18 Canadian dollars a share and values the company at about 1.94 billion Canadian dollars ($1.74 billion). Sears also said it would ask the Ontario Court of Appeal to reconsider a decision by the Ontario Securities Commission that barred Sears Holdings from counting some shareholder votes toward the proposed purchase and effectively prevented the company from completing the acquisition...
