In a possible setback for the billionaire investor François Pinault?s takeover plan for the utility Suez, President Jacques Chirac and Albert Frère, Suez?s biggest investor, said they supported a merger with Gaz de France. ?For me, G.D.F. and Suez is still the best thing,? Mr. Frère said in an interview after a New Year?s address to business leaders by Mr. Chirac in Paris. ?It?s clear.? Suez is coveted as European utilities prepare for a full opening of power markets to competition later this year. ?We need a major actor in gas, that?s why the combination of Gaz de France and Suez is strategic for France and Europe,? Mr. Chirac said in his speech. Mr. Pinault signaled on Tuesday that he might consider a bid for Suez. France?s stock market regulator said it will set on Tuesday a deadline by which Mr. Pinault will have to declare plans to bid or be prohibited from making a takeover offer for six months...

World Business Briefing: Brazil: Judge Blocks Youtube Video
A judge has ordered YouTube to find a way to stop Brazilians from viewing steamy footage of the supermodel Daniela Cicarelli, left, and her boyfriend on its Web site, court officials said. YouTube was first ordered in September to remove video showing Ms. Cicarelli and a Brazilian banker, Renato Malzoni, in intimate scenes along a beach near Cadiz, Spain. But the clip still appears periodically on YouTube, prompting the expanded order from Justice Enio Santarelli Zuliani of São Paulo State Supreme Court on Tuesday, the court?s press office said. Ms. Cicarelli, one of Brazil?s best-known models, is host of a show on Brazilian MTV and was previously engaged to the Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo. Links to the video appeared on YouTube yesterday, but efforts to view them from Brazil and the United States produced this message: ?This video has been removed due to terms of use violation.? A YouTube spokeswoman, Jennifer Nielsen, declined to comment...
