Royal Bank said profit in the first half would be ?slightly ahead? of that implied by the market median estimate for full-year earnings per share of 72.1 pence ($1.43). That compares with 66.7 pence in 2006. The earnings update did not include comment on the offer that Royal Bank and its consortium has made for ABN Amro. World Business Briefing: Ireland: Profit Up, but Outlook Dims at Ryanair
Ryanair posted a 33 percent increase in annual net profit, helped by higher ticket prices, but it said profit growth would slow as higher interest rates prompted travelers to seek cheaper deals. Ryanair, the biggest low-cost carrier in Europe, said it expected profit growth of about 5 percent in the year ahead, with average ticket prices falling as higher borrowing costs curb consumer spending in Britain, the Irish airline?s biggest market. Excluding one-time items, profit after taxes rose to 401.4 million euros ($540.4 million) in the 12 months that ended March 31, up from 301.5 million euros a year earlier, and better than the 393.5 million euros expected by analysts.
