Wildfires burn homes, kill man in Los Angeles area |
Two wildfires driven by strong Santa Ana winds threatened neighborhoods near Los Angeles on Monday, killing a man, destroying several dozen mobile homes and forcing frantic evacuations. A second person died in a head-on crash on a freeway entrance ramp in traffic snarled by smoke and flames.

Fire officials fear winds will spread LA wildfire |
A wildfire that had burned more than 2,000 acres and forced more than 1,000 people from their homes north of Los Angeles was only smoldering early Monday, but worries were rampant as several hours of severe winds were expected to hit the region later in the day.
